Slovenia has received its inaugural Leonardo C-27J Spartan Next Generation aircraft, marking the first of two ordered.
These versatile aircraft will serve multiple military functions, including tactical transport as well as firefighting capabilities through the MAFFS II Modular Airborne Fire-Fighting System (www.maffs.com).
Over the past two years, Leonardo and Slovenia’s Air Armaments and Airworthiness Directorate have inked two contracts, each encompassing one aircraft, along with comprehensive logistics and training support.
The first contract was signed in March 2022, and the second followed suit in November, with the entire deal amounting to €129 million ($136 million).
This sophisticated twin-turboprop transport boasts cutting-edge avionics, propulsion, and systems, featuring Rolls-Royce AE2100 engines, six-blade propellers, and a modernized glass cockpit.
Notable enhancements include upgraded avionics for seamless operation in civil airspace and improved tactical interoperability. Moreover, new winglets boost climb performance and raise the maximum takeoff weight by up to 1,000kg.
